His Works:
The Shaykh devoted considerable attention to writing and to making the sciences accessible to specialists and nonspecialists alike. Writing came easily to him, and authorship was made effortless for him. There was nothing contrived in his manner or in his writings. Anyone who reads his books is struck by the ease of his expression, the accessibility of his treatment, and the profundity of the ideas he explores and seeks to establish. He did not occupy himself with the superfluities or dross of learning that are unnecessary for understanding Islam and journeying to the Sovereign, the All-Knowing. His works numbered more than forty, ranging from large, multivolume books to brief works of only a few pages. Among the most important are:
1—Taysīr al-Karīm al-Rahmān fī Tafsīr Kalām al-Mannān (Facilitation from the Most Generous, the Most Merciful, in Explaining the Words of the Bestower of Bounties). This is the Shaykh’s best-known book. He wrote it before reaching the age of forty. It comprises eight volumes and was recently published in a single volume, edited by Dr. Abd al-Rahmān al-Luwayhiq.
2—al-Qawāid al-Hisān li-Tafsīr al-Quran (Excellent Principles for Quranic Exegesis).
3—Taysīr al-Latīf al-Mannān fī Khulāsat Tafsīr al-Quran (Facilitation from the Most Kind, the Bestower of Bounties: A Summary of Quranic Exegesis). These three works concern Quranic exegesis.
4—Bahjat Qulūb al-Abrār wa-Qurrat Uyūn al-Akhyār fī Sharh Jawāmi al-Akhbār (The Delight of the Hearts of the Righteous and the Comfort of the Eyes of the Virtuous: An Explanation of Comprehensive Prophetic Reports). This work concerns hadith.
