and when doing so, say: “(In the name of Allah)1, Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, with faith in You, affirming Your Book, fulfilling Your covenant, and following the sunnah of Your Prophet Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.”
3—to keep the House on his left;
4—to complete all seven circuits;
5—to be purified from ritual and physical impurity.
293—Purification in all other rites—apart from tawāf—is recommended, not obligatory.
It is reported in the hadith: “Tawāf around the House is prayer, except that Allah has permitted speech during it.”2
294—The following are also recommended3:
1—to bare his right shoulder during the arrival tawāf by placing the middle of his upper wrap beneath his right arm and its end over his left shoulder,

(2) Narrated by al-Tirmidhī (no. 960), al-Nasā’ī (5/222), and al-Hākim (2/266), who said: “It is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.” Al-Hāfiz Ibn Hajar graded it authentic in *al-Talkhīs* (1/138) and reported that Ibn al-Sakan, Ibn Khuzayma, and Ibn Hibbān had also graded it authentic. Al-Albānī likewise graded it authentic in *al-Irwā’* (no. 121).
(3) MS “B” reads: “and it is recommended.” MS “T” reads: “and it is recommended for him.”
وَيَقُولُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ: (بِسْمِ اَللَّهِ) ١، اَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اَللَّهُمَّ إِيمَانًا بِكَ، وَتَصْدِيقًا بِكِتَابِكَ، وَوَفَاءً بِعَهْدِكَ، وَاتِّبَاعًا لِسُنَّةِ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ.
٣- وَأَنْ يَجْعَلَ اَلْبَيْتَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ.
٤- ويكمِّل اَلْأَشْوَاطَ اَلسَّبْعَةَ.
٥- وَأَنْ يَتَطَهَّرَ مِنْ اَلْحَدَثِ وَالْخَبَثِ.
٢٩٣- وَالطِّهَارَةُ فِي سَائِرِ اَلْأَنْسَاكِ -غَيْرَ اَلطَّوَافِ- سُنَّةٌ غير واجبة.
وَقَدْ وَرَدَ فِي اَلْحَدِيثِ: "اَلطَّوَافُ بِالْبَيْتِ صَلَاةٌ، إِلَّا أَنَّ اَللَّهَ أَبَاحَ فِيهِ اَلْكَلَامَ" ٢.
٢٩٤- وَسُنَّ٣:
١- أن يَضْطَبِع في طواف القدوم، بأن يجعل وسط ردائه تحت عاتقه الأيمن، وطرفه على عاتقه الأيسر،
