3—(Then Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in the mosque)1. He then mounted al-Qaswā2. When his she-camel reached level ground at al-Baydā3, he proclaimed Allah’s oneness with the talbiya: “At Your service4, O Allah, at Your service. At Your service; You have no partner; at Your service. Truly, all praise and grace are Yours, as is all dominion. You have no partner.”

4—The people also raised their voices5 with the talbiya they used to recite, and Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not object to any part of it.

5—Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), however, adhered to his own talbiya.

6—Jābir said, “We intended nothing but Hajj; we knew nothing of Umrah.”

7—When we reached the House with him, he touched the Corner.

8—He then circumambulated it seven times6,

It is said that she was the camel on which he emigrated. 3. *Al-Baydā* means an open wilderness; its plural is *bīd*. 4. *Labbayk* means: “I answer You time and again and remain constantly obedient to You.” The dual form conveys emphasis and abundance. 5. *Ihlāl* means raising one’s voice in reciting the *talbiya*. 6. A marginal note in copy “B” states: “The words ‘He then circumambulated it seven times’ do not occur in Muslim, and what follows renders them unnecessary.”

٣- (فصلى رسول الله ﷺ فِي اَلْمَسْجِدِ) ١، ثُمَّ رَكِبَ اَلْقَصْوَاءَ٢ حَتَّى إِذَا اِسْتَوَتْ بِهِ نَاقَتُهُ عَلَى اَلْبَيْدَاءِ٣ أهَلَّ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ: "لَبَّيْكَ٤ اَللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ اَلْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ". ٤- وأهلَّ٥ اَلنَّاسُ بِهَذَا اَلَّذِي يُهِلُّونَ بِهِ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَيْهِمْ شَيْئًا مِنْهُ، ٥- وَلَزِمَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ﷺ تَلْبِيَتَهُ. ٦- قَالَ جَابِرٌ: لَسْنَا نَنْوِي إِلَّا اَلْحَجَّ، لَسْنَا نَعْرِفُ اَلْعُمْرَةَ. ٧- حَتَّى إِذَا أَتَيْنَا اَلْبَيْتَ مَعَهُ اِسْتَلَمَ الركن، ٨- فطاف سبعًا٦،

١ ليست في: "ط". ٢ اسم لناقة النبي ﷺ وذكرت باسم العضباء والجدعاء. وقيل: وهي التي هاجر عليها. ٣- البيداء: الفلاة، جمعها: بِيد. ٤- لبيك، أي: إجابة لك بعد إجابة، وإقامة على طاعتك دائمة، والتثنية للتأكيد والتكثير. ٥- الإهلال: رفع الصوت بالتلبية. ٦- في هامش "ب" ليس في مسلم "فطاف سبعا" وما بعدها يغني عنها.
