—If a pregnant or nursing woman fears for her child, she may refrain from fasting, but must make up the missed fast and feed one poor person for each day.
—Anyone unable to fast because of old age or an illness from which recovery is not expected must feed one poor person for each day.
—Whoever breaks the fast is required only to make it up if it was broken by eating, drinking, deliberately vomiting, cupping, or ejaculation caused by intimate contact.
—The exception is one who breaks the fast through sexual intercourse1: he must make it up and emancipate a slave. If he cannot find one, then he must fast2 for two consecutive months; and if he is unable to do so, then he must feed3 sixty poor persons.
—The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If anyone forgets while fasting and eats or drinks, let him complete his fast, for it is Allah alone who fed him and gave him drink.” Agreed upon4.
—He also said: “People will continue to fare well so long as they hasten to break the fast.” Agreed upon5.
