231—It is unlawful to delay it beyond the day of Eid.
232—The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed it as purification for the fasting person from idle and obscene speech, and as food for the poor.
Whoever pays it before the prayer, it is accepted zakat; and whoever pays it after the prayer, it is merely an ordinary charity.
Narrated by Abu Dāwūd and Ibn Mājah.1
233—He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Seven will be shaded by Allah in His shade on the Day when there will be no shade but His: a just ruler; a young man who grew up in obedience to Allah; a man whose heart is attached2 to the mosques; two men who love one another for Allah’s sake, meeting and parting upon that love; a man who is sought by a woman of status and beauty, but says, ‘I fear Allah’; a man who gives charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand spends; and a man who remembers Allah in solitude and his eyes overflow with tears.” Agreed upon.3
