Chapter: Whoever abandons the prayer while denying its obligation has committed disbelief. If he abandons it out of mere laziness, he is to be put to death as a ḥadd (prescribed legal penalty). The sound view is that the execution applies for a single missed prayer, on condition that its time has fully expired, even beyond the period of necessity. He is first urged to repent; if he refuses, he is beheaded. Another opinion states that he is prodded with an iron until he prays or dies. After death he is washed, the funeral prayer is performed over him, he is buried with the Muslims, and his grave is not effaced.
