Chapter: The Prayer of the Two Eclipses

It is an affirmed sunnah. One enters the prayer with the intention of performing the eclipse prayer, recites al-Fātiḥah, bows, rises, then recites al-Fātiḥah again, bows a second time, rises, stands upright, and then prostrates—this constitutes one rakʿah. The second rakʿah is performed in exactly the same manner. According to the soundest view, it is not permissible to add a third bowing because the eclipse persists, nor to omit a bowing because the eclipse has cleared. The optimal practice is to recite Sūrat al-Baqarah in the first standing; roughly two hundred verses of it in the second; about one hundred and fifty in the third; and approximately one hundred in the fourth.
