Chapter: The Friday Prayer
The Friday prayer becomes individually obligatory only upon every legally accountable, free, adult male who is resident and not prevented by illness or a comparable excuse. It is not required of anyone who already holds a valid concession for missing the regular congregational prayer, nor of a slave under a contract of manumission, nor—according to the sound position—of a person who is only partially free.
Whoever’s ritual purification is valid, his Friday prayer is valid as well. A worshipper may leave the central mosque before the prayer, except a sick person or anyone in a similar condition; once the time has entered it is unlawful for such a person to depart unless remaining would aggravate his harm.
The very elderly and the physically disabled are likewise obliged to attend if they can find suitable transport and doing so would not cause them undue hardship.
