If both spouses embrace Islam at the same time, the wife’s maintenance continues without interruption. If the husband alone becomes Muslim while she remains in disbelief until her waiting period ends, she is not entitled to maintenance; should she embrace Islam during that period, she is—according to the new opinion—denied maintenance for the interval in which she delayed her conversion.

If the wife accepts Islam first and the husband then accepts during the waiting period, or else persists in disbelief, she is entitled—on the sounder view—to maintenance for the entire waiting period. If she apostasizes, she forfeits all maintenance; but if she returns to Islam within the waiting period, even though he has apostasized, she is still entitled to full maintenance for that waiting period.
