(1) It is reliably reported from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that, during his pilgrimage, he saw people rushing toward a certain spot and asked, “What is this?” They answered, “A mosque in which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed.” He replied, “This is how the People of the Book were ruined: they turned the relics of their prophets into churches. Whoever among you happens to be there when the time for prayer comes may pray; otherwise he should not deliberately pray there.”
