—a true Muslim. Whoever therefore alleges that anything of the religion of Islam was left insufficiently explained by the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has declared them liars, and that alone is enough to sow division and malign them. Such a person is an innovator, himself astray and leading others astray, introducing into Islam what it does not contain.

I say: May Allah have mercy on Imām Mālik, who said:

“The latter part of this ummah will be set right by nothing other than that which set right its first part; whatever was not religion then can never be religion today.”

And blessings be upon our Prophet, who said:

“I have left nothing that brings you nearer to Allah without commanding you to do it, nor anything that distances you from Allah and brings you closer to the Fire without forbidding you from it.”

All praise belongs to Allah, by whose grace righteous deeds are perfected.
