– There is no particular litany prescribed for ṭawāf (circumambulation). One may recite from the Quran or engage in whatever remembrance he wishes, for the Prophet ﷺ said: “Circumambulating the House is prayer, but Allah has allowed speech therein; so whoever speaks should speak only what is good.” In another wording: “Therefore, keep your words there to a minimum.” 1
– It is forbidden to perform ṭawāf while naked, and a menstruating woman may not perform it, for the Prophet ﷺ said: “No one may circumambulate the House while naked.” 2 He also told ʿĀʾishah when she arrived for ʿumrah during the Farewell Pilgrimage: “Do what the pilgrim does, except that you must not circumambulate the House [nor perform the prayer] until you are pure.” 3
– When he completes the seventh circuit, he covers his right shoulder, proceeds to the Station of Abraham, and recites: “And take the station of Abraham as a place of prayer” (2:125).
– He sets the Station between himself and the Kaʿbah and prays two rakʿahs there.
– In those two rakʿahs he recites: “Say, ‘O disbelievers,’” and “Say, ‘He is Allah, the One.’”
– One should neither pass in front of anyone praying there nor allow anyone to pass in front of him.
