Manasik al-Hajj wal-UmraNasir al-Din al-Albani

Embracing the space between the Corner and the Door:
38 – He may cling to the area between the Corner and the Door, pressing his chest, face, and forearms against it. ⦗3⦘

(3) This practice is reported from the Prophet ﷺ through two independent chains that together raise the report to the rank of hasan; its strength is further enhanced by the confirmed practice of several Companions, among them Ibn Abbas, who said: “This is the multazam, the space between the Corner and the Door.” It is also authentically related from Urwah b. al-Zubayr. All of this is documented in Al-Ahadith al-Sahihah, no. 2138. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah states in his Manasik (p. 387): “If one wishes, he may go to the multazam—the area between the Black Stone and the Door—press his chest, face, forearms, and palms against it, then supplicate, asking Allah for whatever he needs. He may do this before the farewell tawaf as well, for there is no difference whether this iltizam (clinging) occurs at the time of departure or otherwise; the Companions used to do it when they first entered Mecca… If a person were merely to stand by the Door and supplicate without clinging to the House, that would be praiseworthy, but when he departs he should neither stop, nor turn around, nor walk backward.”
