Arrival Circumambulation
27 – He should then move straight to the Black Stone, face it directly, and proclaim “Allāhu akbar.” Saying the basmala (“In the name of Allah”) beforehand is reliably reported from Ibn ʿUmar as a Companion’s practice; anyone who transmits it as a prophetic report is mistaken.
28 – He next touches the Stone with his hand, kisses it with his lips, and may also place his forehead on it, for this was done by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as well as by ʿUmar and Ibn ʿAbbās. 4
29 – If he cannot kiss it, he should touch it with his hand and then kiss his hand.
30 – If he is unable even to touch it, he should simply gesture toward it with his hand.
(4) Al-Shafi‘i, Ahmad, and others have transmitted it; it is a strong hadith, as I have shown in al-Hajj al-Kabir.
