or he may say: “I seek refuge in Allah the Magnificent, by His Noble Countenance and His eternal dominion, from Satan the accursed.” 1
25 – When he catches sight of the Ka‘bah, he may raise his hands if he wishes, for this is authentically reported from Ibn ʿAbbās. 2
26 – No specific supplication from the Prophet ﷺ is confirmed at this point, so he may beseech Allah with whatever words come easily to him. If he chooses the supplication of ʿUmar—“O Allah, You are Peace and from You is peace; keep us alive, our Lord, in peace”—that is praiseworthy, for it is reliably transmitted from him. 3
(1) Ibn Abi Shaybah narrates it with an authentic chain. Others report it as a marfuʿ (prophetic) narration, but that isnad is weak, as explained in al-Daʿifah, no. 1054.
(2) Al-Bayhaqi, 5/72, transmits it with a hasan (reliable) chain from Saʿid ibn al-Musayyib, who said: “I heard ʿUmar say a word that no one else has heard; I heard him, on seeing the House (the Kaʿbah), say …” and he mentioned it. Al-Bayhaqi also gives another chain from Saʿid ibn al-Musayyib in which he himself used to say it, and Ibn Abi Shaybah, 4/97, records it from both men.
(3) A respected writer, in his notes on Manasik and Ziyarat, claimed that this wording is not traced back to the Prophet. This is an error. I have established its authenticity in al-Irwaʾ, no. 1112, which—by Allah’s grace—has now been published. All praise and thanks are due to Him.

"أعوذ بالله العظيم وبوجهه الكريم وسلطانه القديم من الشيطان الرجيم" ١.
٢٥- فإذا رأى الكعبة رفع يديه إن شاء لثبوته عن ابن عباس٢.
٢٦- ولم يثبت عن النبي ﷺ هنا دعاء خاص فيدعو بما تيسر له وإن دعا بدعاء عمر: "اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام فحينا ربنا بالسلام" فحسن لثبوته عنه رضي الله عنه٣.
١ رواه ابن أبي شيبة بسند صحيح عنه ورواه غيره مرفوعا وإسناده ضعيف كما هو مبين في الضعيفة "١٠٥٤".
٢ رواه البيهقي "٥ / ٧٢" بسند حسن عن سعيد بن المسيب قال: سمعت من عمر كلمة ما بقي أحد من الناس سمعها غيري سمعته يقول إذا رأى البيت: فذكره. ورواه بإسناد آخر أيضا عن سعيد بن المسيب أنه كان يقول ذلك ورواه ابن أبي شيبة "٤ / ٩٧" عنهما.
٣ وقول بعض الأفاضل في تعليقه على المناسك والزيارات: إنه لم ينقل عن النبي ﷺ. وهم منه وقد حققت القول في صحته في الإرواء "١١١٢" وقد يسر الله طبعه. فله الحمد والمنة.
