Manasik al-Hajj wal-UmraNasir al-Din al-Albani

Prayer in the Valley of al-ʿAqīq:
12- Anyone whose miqat (designated station for entering ihram) is Dhu’l-Ḥulayfa is recommended to pray there—not because the prayer is tied to ihram itself, but because of the virtue and blessing of the place. Al-Bukhari reports from ʿUmar (Allah be pleased with him) who said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Valley of al-ʿAqīq saying:
‘A messenger from my Lord came to me last night and said: Pray in this blessed valley and say: “ʿUmrah within …”’ (another wording reads: ‘ʿUmrah and’) ‘Hajj.’

Ibn ʿUmar also narrates from the Prophet ﷺ:
“He was seen (in another version: he was shown) while halting¹ at Dhu’l-Ḥulayfa in the floor of the valley, and it was said to him, ‘You are in a blessed plain.’”²

(1) The expression derives from ta‘ris: a traveller’s brief halt toward the end of the night to sleep and rest; see Ibn al-Athir, al-Nihaya. (2) Reported in Sahih Abi Dawud, no. 1579, and in my own Abridged Sahih al-Bukhari, nos. 761–762 (may Allah enable its complete publication). Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar states in Fath al-Bari, 3/311: “The hadith affirms the superiority of al-Aqiq just as it affirms the superiority of Madinah, and the superiority of performing prayer there …”
