and for the study of hadith we rely on the commentaries of the leading authorities, such as Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī and al-Qasṭallānī on al-Bukhārī, al-Nawawī on Muslim, and al-Manāwī on al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr. We devote special care to the hadith collections themselves—foremost the Six Canonical Collections and their expositions—and we attend to the rest of the scholarly corpus in every field: fundamentals, subsidiary rulings, legal maxims, biography, grammar, morphology, and all the sciences of the ummah.
Moreover, we hold that Imām Ibn al-Qayyim and his teacher are both genuine leaders of Ahl al-Sunnah, and their writings are among our most treasured books. Yet we do not follow them unquestioningly in every issue, for the words of anyone other than our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ may be accepted or rejected. It is well known that we part company with them in several matters, among them the question of three divorces pronounced in a single sitting; in that case we follow the four imams and deem it a valid triple divorce.
The Fruits and Legacy of Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb’s Call
Every call and every deed is assessed by the fruits it yields and the impact it leaves behind. Because the Shaykh’s call—praise be to Allah—was offered purely for His sake, modeled on the way of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and drew its support from the Qur’an and the Sunnah, it has produced the finest effects: its benefit has endured, its influence has lasted, and it has bestowed upon the ummah many blessings, among them:
1- The establishment of an Islamic state, the state of the Āl Saʿūd, who championed this call and strove in its cause. To this day—praise be to Allah—this state rules by Allah’s law, serves the Two Sacred Mosques, bolsters Muslims everywhere by building mosques and Islamic and educational centers, and spreads the call of Islam.
