He should choose the most comprehensive supplications and be careful to use those transmitted from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for they are blessed supplications that encompass all good and are free from error and misjudgment. He may say: “O Allah, cure so-and-so”; “May it be a purification, Allah willing”; “I ask Allah the Almighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to cure you”; or “O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the affliction and cure him. You are the Healer. There is no cure except Your cure—a cure that leaves no illness behind.” The relevant hadiths have already been mentioned. He may also recite over him the Opening Surah and the surahs of refuge; the hadiths of Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī, may Allah be pleased with him, and Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, concerning this have already been cited. Or he may recite over him: “In the name of Allah, I recite over you against everything that harms you, against the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah cure you. In the name of Allah, I recite over you.” This is the supplication with which Gabriel recited over the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he fell ill. Alternatively, he may say what is authentically reported from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, in the two Sahih collections: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would say over the sick person: ‘In the name of Allah. With the soil of our land and the saliva of one of us, our sick are healed, by our Lord’s permission.’” 1.
When a healthy person sees those who are ill, he should take heed and draw a lesson. He should praise Allah for the blessing of health and well-being and ask Him, Glorified is He, to preserve him from affliction.
We ask Allah, the Most Generous, to cure our sick and all sick Muslims, and to grant everyone health, safety, and well-being. He is indeed All-Hearing and Responsive.
