Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

The meaning of “Allah is sufficient for us” is that He suffices us in everything that concerns us. We therefore place our trust in Him alone and rely upon Him alone, as He—Exalted is He—said: “Whoever puts his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him.”1 That is, He suffices him, as He said: “Is Allah not sufficient for His servant?”2

His words, “and He is the best Disposer of affairs,” mean that He is the best One in whom to place one’s trust for securing blessings and warding off harm and affliction. Allah Most High said: “Hold fast to Allah. He is your Protector—what an excellent Protector and what an excellent Helper!”3

This tremendous statement encompasses trust in Allah, reliance upon Him, and recourse to Him—Glorified is He. This is the path to a person’s honor, deliverance, and safety. Ibn al-Qayyim—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “He is sufficient for whoever trusts in Him and suffices whoever seeks refuge in Him. He grants security to the fearful and protects whoever seeks His protection. He is the best Protector and the best Helper. Whoever takes Him as his Protector, seeks His aid, trusts in Him, and turns wholly to Him, Allah will undertake his care, preserve him, guard him, and protect him. Whoever fears Him and is mindful of Him, He will grant him security from whatever he fears and dreads, and bring him every benefit he needs: ‘Whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for him and provide for him from where he does not expect. Whoever puts his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him.’4 So do not grow impatient for His victory, provision, and well-being, for Allah will surely accomplish His purpose. Allah has appointed a measure for everything, which it can neither precede nor lag behind.”5

The foregoing demonstrates the tremendous importance of this statement and that Abraham and Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon them both—uttered it in times of hardship.
