His noble Face. Since the complete attainment of this depends upon the absence of anything that might harm him in this world or tempt him away from his religion, he said, “without harmful adversity or a trial that leads astray.”
That the believers will see their Lord on the Day of Resurrection is established by abundant scriptural texts and numerous proofs. None denies it except one who has strayed from the straight path. Indeed, it is the loftiest bliss of the people of Paradise and the greatest of their pleasures. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will say, ‘Do you desire anything more that I may give you?’ They will reply, ‘Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not admitted us into Paradise and saved us from the Fire?’ He said, ‘Then He will remove the veil, and they will have been given nothing dearer to them than looking upon their Lord, Mighty and Majestic.’” Related by Muslim1. We ask Allah, the Most Generous, for His bounty.
His words, “O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith and make us rightly guided guides”: the adornment of faith includes adorning the heart with sound belief and virtuous deeds of the heart; adorning the tongue with the remembrance of Allah, recitation of the Quran, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and the like; and adorning the limbs with righteous deeds and acts of obedience that draw one close to Allah.
His words, “and make us rightly guided guides,” mean that we should guide ourselves and others. This is the highest rank: that the servant should know the truth and follow it, while teaching and directing others. In this way, he becomes one who guides and is rightly guided. We ask Allah to guide us all to this and to make us rightly guided guides.
