Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

He, Glorified is He, also informs us that if He had sent the Noble Quran down upon a mountain, it would have humbled itself and split asunder out of fear of Allah, Glorious is His Majesty. He set this forth as a parable for people, demonstrating to them the greatness of the Quran and the power of its effect. Allah Most High says: “Had We sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would certainly have seen it humbled and split asunder out of fear of Allah. These are the parables We set forth for people, so perhaps they may reflect.” 1.

Yet despite all this, Allah Most High has issued His servants the sternest warning against turning away from the Noble Quran. He has made clear the gravity of doing so and the sin and burden that anyone who does so will carry on the Day of Resurrection because he turned away from the Quran and failed to receive it with acceptance and submission. Allah Most High says: “We have indeed given you a Reminder from Our presence. Whoever turns away from it will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection, remaining under it forever. What an evil burden they will bear on the Day of Resurrection!” 2. Since the Quran is a reminder for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and for his nation, it must be received with acceptance, submission, obedience, and reverence. Its light must be followed as guidance to the straight path, and people must devote themselves to learning and teaching it. As for responding to it by turning away and shunning it—or by what is [more dangerous] than that, namely denial and rejection—this is an act of ingratitude for this blessing, and whoever commits it deserves punishment.

For this reason, Allah Most High says: “Whoever turns away from it will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection.” 3. His words in the verse, “We have indeed given you a Reminder from Our presence,” describe the Noble Quran as a reminder. Many verses conveying this meaning have already been discussed, and this means that the Quran
