Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

His words, “and to You I submit,” mean: I yield and obey.

His words, “My hearing, sight, brain, bones, and sinews are humbled before You,” mean that all these parts of me submit to You, abase themselves before You, and are humbled before Your majesty.

His words when rising from bowing, “Allah hears whoever praises Him,” mean: Allah answers whoever praises Him. Here, “hearing” means answering.

His words, “Our Lord, to You belongs praise filling the heavens, filling the earth, filling all that lies between them, and filling whatever else You will,” will be discussed later, Allah willing.

His words, “My face has prostrated itself before the One who created and fashioned it and opened its faculties of hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators,” express the servant’s conscious awareness of Allah’s greatness—glory be to Him—and of the perfection with which He created the human being in the finest form and best proportion. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators.
