Allah described the Quran as the finest discourse, explaining that He repeats its verses and reiterates its message so that it may be understood, and that the skins of the righteous shudder with awe and fear when they hear it. Allah Most High says: “Allah has sent down the finest discourse: a consistent Book of repeated lessons, from which the skins of those who fear their Lord shudder; then their skins and hearts soften at the remembrance of Allah. That is Allah’s guidance, by which He guides whomever He wills. And whoever Allah leaves astray will have no guide.” 1.
Glorified is He, He reproached the believers for failing to humble themselves when they heard the Quran and warned them against resembling the disbelievers in this respect. He says: “Has the time not come for the hearts of those who believe to humble themselves at the remembrance of Allah and before the truth that has been revealed, and not to become like those who were given the Scripture before? A long time passed over them, so their hearts hardened, and many of them are defiantly disobedient.” 2. Glorified is He, He also informs us that the Quran increases the believers in faith when they recite it and reflect upon its verses. He says: “The true believers are only those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, whose faith increases when His verses are recited to them, and who place their trust in their Lord.” 3.
He also informs us that when the Quran is recited to the righteous among the People of the Scripture, they fall upon their faces in prostration and weep, and it increases them in humility, faith, and submission. Glorified is He, He says: “Say, ‘Believe in it or do not believe. Indeed, when it is recited to those who were given knowledge before it, they fall upon their faces in prostration and say, “Glory be to our Lord! Our Lord’s promise was certain to be fulfilled.” And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility.’” 4.
