Allah, I saw in a dream that my head had been cut off.” Jābir said: The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) laughed and said, “If Satan toys with one of you in his sleep, he should not tell people about it.”1 In another narration, he said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I saw in a dream that my head was struck off and rolled away, so I ran after it.” The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to the Bedouin, “Do not tell people about Satan’s toying with you in your sleep.”2
The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) has informed us that whoever does what was mentioned above will not be harmed by his dream. Rather, by Allah’s permission, doing these things will serve as a safeguard against the evil of the dream and the evil of devils.
Along with all this, the servant must remain mindful of Allah, steadfast in obedience to Him, and far removed from disobeying Him, so that Allah may protect him and encompass him with His care and providence, Glorified is He.
Ibn Sīrīn (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “Fear Allah while awake, and pay no heed to what you see in your sleep.”
Allah is the One whose help is sought, and in Him all trust is placed. There is no power and no strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent.
