may become heedless of matters to which he has devoted care and which he is accustomed to maintaining. Yet despite this, he—may Allah be pleased with him—did not omit these words even on that night. This demonstrates how strictly he adhered to them, how carefully he attended to them, and how keen he was to preserve them.
Scholars have inferred from this hadith that one of the virtues and tremendous benefits of remembrance is that it grants the one who remembers Allah bodily strength, health, vigor, and resolve. Regarding this, Ibn al-Qayyim—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “Remembrance grants the one who remembers Allah such strength that, through it, he can do what he would have been unable to do without it. I witnessed something remarkable in the strength of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah—in his walking, speech, boldness, and writing.” He then cited the preceding hadith of Alī and said afterward: “It has therefore been said that anyone who consistently observes this will find in his body sufficient strength to dispense with a servant.”1
He—may Allah have mercy on him—also related that Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah said: “We have been informed that whoever consistently observes these words will not be overcome by fatigue in the work or other activities he undertakes.”2 End quote.
We ask Allah to grant us all success in this and in every good. He is indeed All-Hearing and Responsive.
