Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

—clear signs and brilliant proofs of their Creator’s perfection and the greatness of their Originator. Otherwise, every created thing—small or great, minute or immense—contains a clear sign of the perfection of the Creator, Glorious is He.

In every thing, He has a sign
That shows that He is the One.

He therefore followed this in the supplication with the words, “Our Lord and Lord of all things.” This is a general statement following a specific one, so that no one might think the matter was restricted to what had been mentioned.

His words, “Lord of the Magnificent Throne,” point to the Throne’s immensity and to its being the greatest of created things. It is reported in a hadith that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: “The Footstool, in comparison with the Throne, is only like an iron ring cast into the midst of a vast desert.”1 If this created thing possesses such immensity, glory, and vastness, then what of its Creator and Originator—Glorious is He?

His words, “Splitter of the grain and the fruit-stone,” come from falq, meaning “to split open.” That is, He splits open the grain used for food and the stones of dates and other fruits so that trees and crops may emerge. Plants are either trees originating from fruit-stones or crops originating from grain. By His perfect power and wondrous creation, Allah—Glorious is He—is the One Who opens these dry grains and fruit-stones, which are like stone and neither grow nor increase. They then split apart, and from them emerge vast crops and great trees. In this is a brilliant sign of the Originator’s perfection and the Creator’s greatness—Glorious is He. Allah Most High says: “Indeed, Allah is the Splitter of the grain and the fruit-stone. He brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living. That is Allah; how, then, can you be turned away?” 2).
