Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

while how many have no one to suffice them or shelter them!”1.

Accordingly, when a Muslim retires to bed, he should remember two things. He should remember the days that have passed and praise Allah for the health, well-being, food, drink, shelter, and other blessings He provided him throughout them. He should also remember the time that lies ahead, in which he faces one of two possibilities: either his soul will be taken, in which case he asks Allah—if that is decreed—for forgiveness and mercy; or his term will be extended, in which case he asks Allah to protect him as He protects His righteous servants.
