words and keeping their import present in his mind; and that, in proportion to the knowledge and mindfulness present in the servant’s heart, he will attain a distinction and merit not attained by others, and this remembrance will affect him more profoundly than it affects others.

Whoever recites this remembrance—or any other transmitted formula of remembrance—without bringing its meaning to mind or understanding its import will be only weakly affected by it.

In any event, a Muslim should consistently recite this blessed remembrance every morning and strive to bring its meaning to mind and understand its import. Success lies with Allah alone. He—Glorified is He—is the One whose help is sought and who guides to the straight path.
