said: “Ask Allah for pardon and well-being, for after certainty of faith, no one has been given anything better than well-being.”1.
Pardon means that sins are erased and concealed. Well-being means that Allah safeguards His servant from every punishment and tribulation by warding off evil from him, protecting him from afflictions and illnesses, and preserving him from wickedness and sin.
The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—asked for well-being in this world and the Hereafter, and for well-being in his religion, worldly affairs, family, and wealth. Asking for well-being in one’s religion means seeking protection from everything that would blemish or impair it. In worldly affairs, it means seeking protection from everything that would harm a person in this world, such as misfortune, affliction, adversity, or the like. In the Hereafter, it means seeking protection from its terrors and hardships and the various punishments it contains. With regard to one’s family, it means that they be protected from trials and safeguarded against afflictions and tribulations. With regard to wealth, it means that it be preserved from anything that might destroy it, such as flooding, fire, theft, or the like. Thus, this supplication brings together the request that Allah protect one from every harmful occurrence and dangerous threat.
His words, “O Allah, conceal my faults,” mean: my defects, failings, shortcomings, and everything whose disclosure would distress me. This also includes protection from the exposure of those parts of the body that must be covered: for a man, the area between the navel and the knee, and for a woman, her entire body. A woman should be especially diligent in preserving this supplication, particularly in this age, when women throughout the world increasingly expose themselves and neglect proper covering and hijab: one bares her forearm, another exposes her lower leg, a third displays her chest and upper breast, while still others do things even more grievous
