Understanding Supplications and Remembrances
(Daily and Nightly Devotions)
By Abd al-Razzāq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The good end is for the God-fearing, and may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon the leader of the messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all his family and Companions.
To proceed:
This is the third section of Understanding Supplications and Remembrances. In it, I have explained the remembrances and supplications connected with a Muslim’s daily and nightly practices, such as the remembrances of morning and evening, sleep, the prayers and their conclusions, entering and leaving, riding and travelling, and eating and drinking, as well as other magnificent remembrances and blessed supplications that accompany Muslims throughout their days and nights. I have also explained their meanings and significance.
There is no doubt that steadfastly observing and preserving these remembrances brings successive blessings and abundant favors in this world and the Hereafter—especially when the one who observes them is enabled to contemplate their meanings, reflect upon their purposes and aims, and put their objectives and implications into practice.
I hope that, by the grace of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, this book will help achieve some of that. In writing it, I have drawn upon the words of scholars found in commentaries on hadith collections generally, and in works on remembrances in particular, as well as works on language, uncommon hadith vocabulary, and other subjects. At the same time, I acknowledge my limited ability, meager knowledge, scant reading, and many shortcomings. I ask Allah, by His gracious favor and bounty, to pardon and forgive me. He is indeed All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
