Ibn al-Qayyim—may Allah have mercy upon him—said: “The finest and most beneficial remembrance is that in which the heart accords with the tongue, which is drawn from the Prophetic remembrances, and whose meanings and purposes the one remembering Allah fully apprehends.”1
Given the lofty standing and great importance of this matter, I felt a desire to prepare and present—while acknowledging my inadequacy and lack of qualification—a study of the Prophetic remembrances and supplications, explaining how they should be understood and the sublime meanings, far-reaching implications, invaluable lessons, moving admonitions, and profound wisdom they contain. I endeavored to collect the statements of the scholars on this subject. By Allah’s praise, I gathered numerous benefits, subtle insights, and precise observations from the words of meticulous scholars, especially the two illustrious imams, Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim—may Allah have mercy upon them both. I then organized and brought together the material I had collected, giving it the title:
“Understanding Supplications and Remembrances”
A substantial portion of it has been broadcast in installments by the blessed Quran Radio of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—may Allah preserve it—and it continues to be aired to this day. Several of my shaykhs and brothers expressed the wish that I publish it in print, so that the avenues through which it may benefit others might be broadened and its usefulness increased. I therefore made slight stylistic revisions to render it suitable for publication and gave each installment a distinct title indicating its content and subject. Allah willing, it will be issued in collections of suitably coordinated length and subject matter. This is its first section, and I earnestly hope that Allah, the Most Generous, will accept this work from me
