Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

said to a man, ‘Recite: “We have repeatedly conveyed the Word to them so that they may take heed”1.’”

May Allah have mercy on Umm al-Dardā, and may He have mercy on all the righteous predecessors. How carefully they guarded their time and their lives, filling them with the remembrance of Allah and whatever drew them nearer to Him! When he asked her, “Perhaps we have wearied you?” she—may Allah have mercy on her—did not hesitate to reply, “Yes, by Allah, you have wearied me.” She guarded her time and was intent on attaining perfection and completeness in her religion. How pure were her sincere words, her fragrant breaths, her stirring expressions of faith, and her overflowing goodness! Allah is the One whose help is sought; He is sufficient for us and the best Disposer of affairs.

1. Surah al-Qasas, verse 51.
