First: The heart should be attentive and wholly focused on what is sought.
Second: One should seek out the times when supplications are answered.
Third: The supplication should be made with humility of heart, submission, earnest entreaty, tenderness, and brokenness before Allah—Mighty and Majestic.
Fourth: The supplicant should face the qiblah.
Fifth: He should be in a state of ritual purity.
Sixth: He should raise his hands to Allah—Mighty and Majestic—when supplicating.
Seventh: He should begin his supplication by praising and extolling Allah, then follow this by invoking blessings and peace upon His servant and Messenger Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
Eighth: Before presenting his need and request, he should repent and seek forgiveness.
Ninth: He should persistently implore Allah, humbly seek His favor, and commune with Him often.
Tenth: He should combine hope and fear in his supplication.
