mention of some of what has been reported from him concerning the virtuous times during which Muslims are encouraged to seek out opportunities for supplication. Mention has also previously been made of what has been reported from him regarding the virtuous places in which it is recommended to seek out opportunities for supplication. Likewise, reference has already been made to several virtuous states in which a Muslim may find himself and during which it is recommended that he seek out opportunities for supplication, because of his great nearness to Allah in those states and his profound humility, submissiveness, and lowliness before Him.

The supplications authentically established from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, encompass every human circumstance: joy and sorrow, health and illness, blessing and affliction, travel and residence, and so forth. In all these matters, he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, directed his nation to the best words for them to say in every such circumstance. He left no supplication that draws one nearer to Allah and leads to goodness and happiness in this world and the Hereafter without explaining it fully and perfectly to the nation. How could it be otherwise when he—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him—said: “Allah never sent a prophet without making it incumbent upon him to direct his nation to the best that he knew for them and to warn them against the evil that he knew for them.” Muslim narrated it1.

It is truly astonishing that some ordinary Muslims abandon the sound supplications authentically established from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—which have been collected in many authoritative books widely circulated among Muslims—and instead turn to newly introduced, innovated supplications devised by pretentious contrivers and written by people who make baseless claims, without relying on the Quran and the sunnah or giving due regard to the guidance of the best of this nation, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him. By doing so, they have distracted people from the sunnahs and led them into innovations. Concerning this, one of
