and their failings to be pardoned. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: “It is well known that, on the afternoon of Arafah, such faith, mercy, light, and blessing descend upon the pilgrims’ hearts as cannot be expressed.”1.
During Hajj, there are particular places where a Muslim should stop and make a special effort to supplicate, following the example of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It is established that he would stop at these places, face the direction of prayer, and supplicate to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. There are six such places in particular: at Arafah, as mentioned above; and at the Sacred Monument, as Allah Almighty says: “When you depart from Arafat, remember Allah at the Sacred Monument.” 2. In Jābir’s—may Allah be pleased with him—hadith describing the Hajj of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, it is related that “he rode al-Qaswā until he reached the Sacred Monument. He faced the direction of prayer, supplicated to Allah, proclaimed His greatness, declared that there is no god but Allah, and affirmed His oneness. He remained standing until broad daylight, then departed before sunrise.” Related by Muslim.3.
Likewise, upon al-Safā and al-Marwah, as established in the aforementioned hadith of Jābir in Sahīh Muslim: “Whenever the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stood upon al-Safā, he would proclaim Allah’s greatness three times and say: ‘There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things.’ He would do so three times and supplicate, and he would do the same upon al-Marwah.”4.
