of the plantings of Paradise.” The Prophet asked, “What are the plantings of Paradise?” Abraham replied, “There is no might nor power except with Allah.”1.
Imam Ahmad narrated from Abū Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said, “Frequently say, ‘There is no might nor power except with Allah,’ for it is one of the treasures of Paradise.”2.
Ahmad, al-Tirmidhī, al-Hākim, and others narrated from Qays ibn Sa'd ibn 'Ubādah that his father sent him to serve the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him. Qays said, “The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—passed by me after I had prayed, nudged me with his foot, and said, ‘Shall I not direct you to one of the gates of Paradise?’ I replied, ‘Certainly.’ He said, ‘There is no might nor power except with Allah.’”3.
These are some of the hadiths that explain the merit of this magnificent phrase and the immense rewards, abundant blessings, and varied benefits it brings in this world and the Hereafter. Ibn al-'Irāqī—may Allah have mercy on him—gathered a number of its reported virtues into some charming verses:
O friend, say often: “There is no might nor power
Except with Allah”—a remedy for affliction.
It is a treasure of Paradise—what triumph
For one who takes refuge in the Garden of Abode!
To him our Lord says: “My servant has submitted
To Me and surrendered, contentedly.”
He also recited these verses of his own:
