Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

to refrain from. He—Glorified is He—is Wise, Generous, Munificent, Glorious, Beneficent, Loving, Most Patient, and Most Appreciative. When He is obeyed, He rewards graciously, and when He is disobeyed, He forgives. No one bears hurtful words he hears with greater patience than He does; no one loves praise more than He does; no one loves to afford every opportunity for an excuse more than He does; and no one loves beneficence more than He does. He is Beneficent and loves those who do good; Most Appreciative and loves those who give thanks; Beautiful and loves beauty; Pure and loves all that is pure; All-Knowing and loves those of His servants who possess knowledge; Generous and loves the generous; Strong—and the strong believer is dearer to Him than the weak believer; Benevolent and loves the righteous; Just and loves people of justice; Modest and Concealing, and loves those characterized by modesty and concealment.

Glorified is He, He loves His Names and Attributes, and He loves those who worship Him through them. He loves those who call upon Him and praise Him by them, and He loves those who know and comprehend them, extol Him through them, and praise and laud Him by them. As authentically reported from the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—: “No one loves praise more than Allah; for that reason, He praised Himself. No one has greater protective jealousy than Allah; for that reason, He prohibited shameful deeds, whether open or secret. And no one loves to afford every opportunity for an excuse more than Allah; for that reason, He sent the messengers as bearers of glad tidings and warners.” 12.

From this it is known that whoever has a share in knowing Allah’s Most Beautiful Names and supreme Attributes, as revealed in His Book and the sunnah of His Messenger—peace and blessings be upon him—knows with complete certainty that all of these, as they pertain to Allah, necessarily entail praise and commendation. Praise is the necessary consequence of His Most Beautiful Names, His supreme Attributes, and His praiseworthy acts. He—Glorified is He—is described only in terms of praise and is extolled only with the finest praise, just as He is called only by the most beautiful
