weakness, and magnify Him greatly.” 1 He praised Himself for His exaltedness and greatness, as He, Glorified be He, says: “All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of all worlds. To Him belongs all greatness in the heavens and the earth, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.” 2 He praised Himself in this world and the Hereafter, declared that praise of Him pervades the upper and lower realms, and drew attention to all of this in numerous verses of His Book. These verses demonstrate the varied forms of praise due to Him, Glorified be He, and the many grounds for praising Him. Allah brings them together in some passages of His Book and mentions them separately in others, so that He may make Himself known to His servants; so that they may know how to praise and extol Him; and so that He may thereby endear Himself to them and love them when they know Him, love Him, and praise Him.3
Praise occurs in the Noble Quran in more than forty places. In some of them, the grounds for praise are brought together, while in others they are set out in detail. Verses that bring together the grounds for praise include His words, Most High: “All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds”; His words: “To Him belongs all praise in this world and the Hereafter” 4; and His words: “All praise is due to Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth.” 5
Verses in which the grounds for praise are set out in detail include His words, Most High: “They will say, ‘All praise is due to Allah, who has guided us to this. We would never have been guided had Allah not guided us.’” 6,
