He bestowed peace upon the Messengers, who affirm Allah’s perfect attributes and majestic qualities in a manner befitting Him. This occurs in His words: “Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above what they ascribe to Him. Peace be upon the Messengers, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.” 1
In this verse, Allah also praises Himself after declaring Himself free of imperfection. This is because praise affirms the perfection of His attributes, whereas glorification declares Allah free of deficiencies and defects. Thus, the verse combines declaring Him free of defects through glorification with affirming His perfection through praise. This meaning occurs frequently in the Quran and sunnah. Glorification and praise are therefore two great principles and firm foundations upon which the true methodology concerning the oneness of Allah’s names and attributes rests. Allah alone grants success.
