and heavy in the balance, thereby demonstrating how little effort the deed requires and how abundant its reward is. How boundless is Allah’s grace, and how immense His bounty!
Among the virtues of this magnificent phrase is what al-Tirmidhī, Ibn Hibbān, al-Hākim and others narrated by way of Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir—may Allah be pleased with him—from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—who said, “For whoever says, ‘Glory and praise be to Allah, the Magnificent,’ a palm tree will be planted in Paradise.”1 This report has two corroborating narrations:
The first is the report of Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-Ās—may Allah be pleased with them both—related as a statement of Abd Allah himself. Ibn Abī Shayba included it in his Musannaf.2
The other is the report of Mu‘ādh ibn Sahl, traced back to the Prophet. Imam Ahmad included it in his Musnad.3
Another virtue of this phrase is found in what al-Tabarānī and al-Hākim narrated from Nāfi ibn Jubayr ibn Mutim, from his father, who said that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “Whoever says, ‘Glory and praise be to Allah. Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You’—if he says it in a gathering of remembrance, it will be like a seal set upon it; and if he says it in a gathering of idle talk, it will be an expiation for him.”
