“Whoever is granted these words at the time of death will not be touched by the Fire.”
Al-Tirmidhī said, “This is a good hadith.” Al-Hākim graded it authentic, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. Shaykh al-Albānī—may Allah preserve him—said, “It is an authentic hadith.”1
— Another benefit is that frequent remembrance of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is a safeguard against hypocrisy. The hypocrites remember Allah, Mighty and Majestic, only rarely. Allah Most High says concerning them: “They remember Allah only a little.” 2
Ka‘b said, “Whoever remembers Allah, Mighty and Majestic, frequently is free of hypocrisy.”
Perhaps it is for this reason that Allah concluded Sūrat al-Munāfiqūn with the words: “O you who believe, do not let your wealth or your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does so—it is they who are the losers.” 3
This contains a warning against the trial that befell the hypocrites: they became heedless of the remembrance of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and consequently fell into hypocrisy—Allah’s refuge is sought.
‘Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—was asked about the Khārijites, “Are they hypocrites?” He replied, “The hypocrites remember Allah only a little.”
Thus, one of the signs of hypocrisy is remembering Allah, Mighty and Majestic, only rarely. Accordingly, frequent remembrance of Him Most High is a safeguard against hypocrisy. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is too generous to afflict with hypocrisy a heart that remembers Him; rather, it afflicts hearts that have grown heedless of the remembrance of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
