all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth—the King, the Most Holy, the Almighty, the All-Wise.” 1 At other times it occurs as a verbal noun, as in the words of Allah, Exalted is He: “Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above what they attribute to Him. Peace be upon the messengers, and all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds.” 2

Allah, Mighty and Majestic, mentions glorification at the opening of eight surahs of the Quran. At the beginning of Surah al-Isrā’, He says: “Glory be to Him who took His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We might show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.” 3 At the beginning of Surah al-Nahl, He says: “Allah’s command is at hand, so do not seek to hasten it. Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.” 4 At the beginning of Surah al-Hadīd, He says: “All that is in the heavens and the earth has glorified Allah, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.” 5 At the beginning of Surah al-Hashr, He says: “All that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth has glorified Allah, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.” 6 At the beginning of Surah al-Saff, He says: “All that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth has glorified Allah, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.” 7 At the beginning of Surah al-Jumuʿah, He says: “Allah is glorified by

مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ المَلِكِ القُدُّوسِ العَزِيزِ الحَكِيمِ﴾ ١، وتارة بلفظ المصدر كما في قوله تعالى: ﴿سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ العِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ وَسَلاَمٌ عَلَى المُرْسَلِينَ وَالحَمْدُ للهِ رَبِّ العَالَمِينَ﴾ ٢. وقد ذكر الله ﷾ التسبيح في مُفتتح ثمان سُوَر من القرآن الكريم، فقال تعالى في أول سورة الإسراء: ﴿سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً مِنَ المَسْجِدِ الحَرَامِ إِلَى المَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ البَصِيرُ﴾ ٣، وقال تعالى في أول سورة النحل: ﴿أَتَى أَمْرُ اللهِ فَلاَ تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ﴾ ٤، وقال تعالى في أوّل سورة الحديد: ﴿سَبَّحَ للهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَهُوَ العَزِيزُ الحَكِيمُ﴾ ٥، وقال تعالى في أوّل سورة الحشر: ﴿سَبَّحَ للهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَهُوَ العَزِيزُ الحَكِيمُ﴾ ٦، وقال تعالى في أول سورة الصف: ﴿سَبَّحَ للهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَهُوَ العَزِيزُ الحَكِيمُ﴾ ٧، وقال تعالى في أول سورة الجمعة: ﴿يُسَبِّحَ للهِ
