32 / Further Virtues of the Declaration of Monotheism: There Is No Deity Worthy of Worship but Allah
We previously discussed the virtues of the declaration of monotheism—“There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah”—as mentioned in the Noble Quran. This is the magnificent declaration for whose sake the earth and heavens came into being and all creatures were created; for whose sake the messengers were sent, the scriptures revealed, and religious laws prescribed; for whose sake the balances were erected, the records laid open, and the market of Paradise and Hell established; and on account of which creation was divided into believers and disbelievers, and the righteous and the wicked. It is the foundation of creation and command, reward and punishment. It is the truth upon which the religion was founded and the direction of prayer appointed. The first and the last will be questioned about it on the Day of Resurrection. No servant’s feet will move from before Allah until he is asked two questions: What did you worship? And how did you respond to the messengers?
The answer to the first lies in truly fulfilling the declaration of monotheism—“There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah”—through knowledge, affirmation, and action.
The answer to the second lies in truly affirming that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah through knowledge, acknowledgment, submission, and obedience.1
No created being could ever enumerate the virtues of the declaration of monotheism—“There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah”—for it brings such reward, recompense, and immense benefits in this world and the Hereafter as are beyond anything the mind can conceive or the imagination envision. I shall therefore survey some of this declaration’s virtues as mentioned in the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
