the Muslim community has become like a single body and a firmly joined structure, each of whose parts reinforces the others.
The eminent scholar Shaykh Muhammad al-Amīn al-Shinqītī—may Allah have mercy on him—said in his book Adwā’ al-Bayān: “In sum, the true bond that brings together those who are divided and unites those who are at variance is the bond of ‘There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah.’ Do you not see that this bond—which unites the entire Muslim community as though it were a single body and makes it like a structure whose parts reinforce one another—has moved the hearts of those who bear the Throne and the angels around it to compassion for the children of Adam on earth, despite the differences between them? Allah Most High says:
‘Those who bear the Throne and those around it glorify their Lord with praise, believe in Him, and seek forgiveness for the believers: Our Lord, Your mercy and knowledge encompass all things. Forgive, then, those who repent and follow Your way, and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire. Our Lord, admit them into the Gardens of Eternity which You have promised them, along with the righteous among their parents, spouses, and descendants. You alone are the Almighty, the All-Wise. Protect them from evil consequences. Whoever You protect from evil consequences on that Day has indeed received Your mercy. That is the supreme triumph.’ 1
Allah Most High thus indicates that the bond connecting those who bear the Throne and the angels around it with the children of Adam on earth—such that they offered this magnificent and righteous supplication for them—is none other than faith in Allah, Glorious and Exalted.”
Later, he—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “In short, there is no disagreement among Muslims that the bond connecting the people of earth to one another, and connecting the inhabitants of earth with those of heaven, is the bond of ‘There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah.’ It is therefore absolutely impermissible to call people to any other bond.” 2 End quote.
