proclaiming, ‘Worship Allah and shun false gods.’” 1 He also says at the beginning of Sūrat al-Nahl: “He sends down the angels with revelation by His command to whichever of His servants He wills, saying, ‘Warn that there is no deity worthy of worship but Me, so fear Me.’” 2 This verse is the first of the blessings Allah enumerates for His servants in this surah. This indicates that being guided to this declaration is the greatest blessing Allah Most High has bestowed upon His servants, as He says: “He has lavished upon you His blessings, both apparent and hidden.” 3 Mujāhid said: “There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah.” 4
Sufyān ibn Uyayna said: “Allah has bestowed no blessing upon any of His servants greater than teaching them that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah.” 5
— Another of its virtues is that Allah describes it in the Quran as the good word. Allah Most High says: “Have you not seen how Allah sets forth a parable? A good word is like a good tree: its roots are firm and its branches reach into the sky. It bears its fruit at all times by its Lord’s permission. Allah sets forth parables for people so that they may take heed.” 6
— It is also the firm word mentioned in the verse: “Allah keeps those who believe steadfast with the firm word in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. Allah sends the wrongdoers astray, and Allah does whatever He wills.” 7.
