Fiqh al-Adiyah wa-al-AdhkarAbd al-Razzaq ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr

Thus, it is known that all forms of servitude to Allah stem from what His names and attributes entail. Every Muslim servant must therefore make it a firm priority to know his Lord and to know His names and attributes in a sound and correct manner. He must also know what they encompass, their effects, and what knowledge of them requires. In this way, the servant’s share will become abundant and his portion of goodness complete.

Imam Abū Umar al-Talamankī (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Complete knowledge of the names and attributes of Allah Most High—by virtue of which one who invokes Him by them and one who memorizes them merits the reward spoken of by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him)—includes knowing the names and attributes, the benefits they contain, and the truths to which they point. Whoever does not know this neither understands the meanings of the names nor benefits, by mentioning them, from the meanings to which they point.”1 End quote.

We beseech Allah to enable us and you to fully realize this and put it into practice in the best possible manner. He—glory be to Him—is the Hearer of supplication and worthy of all hope. He is sufficient for us and the best Disposer of affairs.
