—exalted is He—: “Fear Allah, and know that to Him you will be gathered.” 1 And the Most High says: “But if you slip after the clear proofs have come to you, then know that Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.” 2
When the servant knows Allah’s majesty, greatness, and exaltedness above His creation—in His Essence, dominion, and status—this produces in him humility, meek submission, love, and every form of worship. Allah Most High says: “That is because Allah alone is the Truth, whatever they invoke besides Him is falsehood, and Allah alone is the Most High, the Most Great.” 3 He also says: “Indeed, Allah is ever Most High, Most Great.” 4 And He says: “Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Most Great, the Supremely Exalted.” 5 And He says: “And He is the Most High, the Magnificent.” 6 And He says: “They did not esteem Allah as He deserves to be esteemed. The whole earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.” 7
When the servant knows Allah’s perfection and beauty, this produces in him a special love and a profound yearning to meet Allah: “Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him.” There is no doubt that this produces many forms of worship in the servant. Hence the Most High says: “So whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him perform righteous deeds and associate no one in the worship of his Lord.” 8
