— The second form is to remember Him, glorified is He, when He commands, hastening to obey His command, and when He prohibits, fleeing from what He has prohibited. The servant’s compliance with Allah’s commands, submission to His law, acceptance of His judgment, and avoidance of His prohibitions—all of this constitutes upholding the remembrance of Allah Most High. Mentioning His commands and prohibitions is one thing, while remembering Him when faced with His commands and prohibitions is another.
Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, explained these preceding categories in his book al-Wābil al-Sayyib1. He stated that when they are all combined in one who remembers Allah, his remembrance is the best, noblest, and greatest form of remembrance.
We therefore ask Allah, the Most Generous, to bring this about for us and for you, and to help us all to remember Him, thank Him, and worship Him well. Indeed, He is All-Hearing, Responsive, and Near.
