If the victim later recovers and returns to his former condition so that the injury leaves no lasting impairment, the wound still does not forfeit all liability. Rather, he is to be appraised at the very moment the blood was flowing, for at that point a diminution in value is inevitable—owing both to the fear for his life and to the immediate impact of the injury upon him.
