Abu Dawud.
Such is this great religion of ours: it provides a remedy for every difficulty, including marital disputes. It even solves the problem of zihar—a predicament that, in the pre-Islamic era, seemed insoluble except by separating the spouses and breaking up the family. How magnificent a faith it is!
Then, in prescribing the expiation, we see how it considers the husband’s circumstances, legislating for each situation an option he can realistically perform—whether manumission, fasting, or feeding the poor. All praise belongs to Allah.
